"Tommy" glasses by Saint-Louis

No doubt anymore that a Saint-Louis glass is a little work of art: Even three of the intricate techniques are necessary to produce a "Tommy" glass: facet cut, ball cut and diamond cut. The engraving makes this classic from 1928 a particularly popular glass creation. “Tommy“ is regarded as one of the most important and well-known glass ranges manufactured at the Saint-Louis Cristallerie. The bestseller’s fame dates back to a legendary dinner in 1938: On the occasion of a visit by King George VI, each guest in the mirrored dining room of Versailles Palace sat down at a place-setting which included eleven glasses from the “Tommy” glassware. The illustrious visitors were delighted. Then as now, each glass in the “Tommy“ series is manufactured with the greatest skill and handcraftsmanship. Each glass takes ten days to make and involves the participation of ten glassblowers to achieve its shape and five glass-cutters to produce the sculpted result.
