"Malmaison" caviar horn spoon & spreader by Christofle

The "Malmaison" caviar serving spoon and spreader from Christofle are a stylistic and perfectly formed celebration of the finely pearled pleasure of caviar. The stem and the bowl of the spoon and the blade of the spreader are made of black buffalo horn in order not to influence the delicate taste. The silverplated handles match the style of the other items of Christofle’s "Malmaison" line.

The design of the "Malmaison" collection is based on the French Empire Style of the early nineteenth century which itself drew its inspiration from design elements and motifs from the ancient world. In translation the word "Malmaison" means bad house. However, this series from the Parisian silversmith Christofle has nothing at all to do with an ailing household. In fact, the name "Malmaison" is taken from the title of the former country house of Napoleon Bonaparte and his first wife Joséphine de Beauharnais.
