The "Malmaison" picture frame is a superb example of French silverwork and has an almost imperial air. A distinctive feature of this silverplated "Malmaison" picture frame from Christofle is the strictly geometric palm border. Palm branches are regarded as a speciality of the French Empire Style which was all the rage during the time of Napoleon at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

"Malmaison" takes its name from a castle that Napoleon and his first wife Joséphine de Beauharnais used as their country home for a while. As part of the renowned "Malmaison" collection, the picture frame is crafted by hand and plated with silver by the traditional French manufacturer.
