A little bowl with almost imperial flair. The most conspicuous feature of this small silverplated "Malmaison" bowl from Christofle is the precisely dimensioned palmette bordure.
The chased line of palm leaves is a speciality of the French Empire Style which dominated design at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The directness of this epoch is also reflected in this small silverplated bowl.
The name of Christofle’s classic line "Malmaison" is taken from the name of a palace which Napoleon and his first wife Joséphine de Beauharnais used to have as their country residence.
