Cutlery from the Knife Capital of France

Harnessing the powers of nature. Cutlers settled in the French town of Thiers as early as the 14th century. They used the rushing currents of the Durolle river to drive their forging hammers and grindstones. Over the centuries, Thiers established itself as the cutlery capital of France. To this day, many of the Thiernois work in the traditional artisan knife forges known as "coutelleries" and produce over 80% of all knives made in France.

Camille Froment laid the foundations for the family business Capdeco in 1963 when she opened a small workshop in Thiers to grind and polish the locally produced knives. In 2002, her son Philippe Froment created the Capdeco brand to carry the traditional craftsmanship of Thiers into the future with modern designs and styles.

From the entry-level model to custom-made special pieces, Capdeco manufactures all its cutlery ranges from high-quality 18/10 stainless steel and assembles them carefully by hand in its workshops in Thiers.
