A short distance south of Lake Constance lies the city of St. Gallen. It has been an important centre of the Swiss textile industry since the 13th century. Christian Fischbacher founded his own company here in 1819 at the age of just 16. He collected the woven goods from the farmers' wives in the surrounding area and carried them on foot to the market in the city. His textile company grew with each generation of the family, steadily expanding its range and eventually starting to produce its own home accessories. Six generations later, Christian Fischbacher is synonymous with high-quality fabrics designed in Switzerland – and has always remained in family hands.
