The espresso cup does not have a handle, but a standing ring on the bottom that fits perfectly into the recess of its ring-shaped saucer. The aviator cup was designed by Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain in 1933. The German-English ceramist remains one of the most influential designers ever to work for KPM. True to her training at the legendary Bauhaus, her original design of the "ring mocha cup" is a masterclass in the design philosophy of the German art movement called New Objectivity. Originally, however, the cup was a pure design study and not available in stores. The new edition is hence a dream come true for lovers and collectors of porcelain by KPM, the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin.
