Mandorla by KPM

"Mandorla" from KPM was designed by KPM's head designer Thomas Wenzel in collaboration with the German artist Reiner Xaver Sedelmeier. The decor is modelled on industrially used protective plates, which are intended to protect walls and floors from excessive wear and tear. The "Mandorla" collection consists of jugs, tumblers and vases made of pure bisque porcelain, cast in the typical elliptical shapes of the protective metal.

Wenzel devised the jug, mug and vase and sorted the "mandorlas" in a regular arrangement so that the viewer "self-experiences what he is actually looking at". The forms are beautiful and simple, but the relief-like feel creates an irritation that is remembered. The choice of bisque porcelain as the material emphasises the sharpness and accuracy."
