Gien’s "Versailles" plates are like witnesses of another time. The venerable dinner service depicts four - true-to-the-original - motifs taken from around the grounds of the Château de Versailles. The design for the plates dates back to 1817. Gien injected new life into the designs in 2017. The Château de Versailles is one of the largest palace complexes in Europe. It was the main residence of the kings of France from the 17th century until the outbreak of the French Revolution.

The "Versailles" set of plates by Gien is the ideal present for Francophiles who have a soft spot for Versailles. The plates are delivered in a pretty wooden Gien box.

Faience is a fine, porous earthenware which is tin-glazed and then fired repeatedly. The sophisticated refinement of the resulting faience is what distinguishes it from other kinds of ceramic. Numerous work steps are necessary to produce a Gien piece.
