A Far-Eastern dream in porcelain and gold. The hand-painted dinner service "Forains d’Orient" from the Hungarian porcelain manufacturer Herend arranges classic Asian motifs into evocative arrangements. Herend presents people, birds, dragons and attractive plants on a background sprinkled with drops of gold. Each piece is magnificently framed with opulent gold edges and gilded handles. What is more, the skilled craftsmen from Herend have also carefully gilded the spouts and the knobs on the lids of the pots and jugs.

Once the purveyor to the emperor's court, this "Forains d'Orient" porcelain pays special homage to the European art tradition of Chinoiserie. Early porcelain artists once used to focus on Chinese motifs. China was after all the country of origin of the "white gold". The "Forains d’Orient" dinner service is based on nineteenth-century Herend motifs inspired by this Chinese art. Herend has refined the pattern and produced a dinner service to match contemporary tastes.
