In 1790, the "Kurland" dinner service from KPM, made of pure white porcelain, launched a new style in porcelain art: classicism.
Around 1790, Peter Biron, Duke of Kurland, commissioned a dinner service from KPM.
Following on from courtly rococo with its shells and tendrils, the predominant style around 1770 drew its inspiration from classical antiquity. A service in a strict classic form was the result: It pays homage to the ideals of the classical world – austerity and symmetry merge in a timeless form.
