In homage to the American artist Alexander Calder (1898 – 1976), the French porcelain manufacturer Bernardaud has brought out this six-piece set of "Calder" plates. The edition is limited to 3,000 pieces. The limited collection is the result of a close exchange of ideas with the Calder Foundation. Six different mobiles that Alexander Calder created in the 1940s and 1950s were selected for the design. The result: modern dinner plates of the finest Limoges porcelain from Bernardaud depicting mobiles in red and black.
Alexander Calder studied and worked in France for many years. He developed a great affinity for his second home. He made his name with his impressive mobiles. The perfectly balanced constructions move even in the lightest gust of wind. They are made of metal elements, rods, thread and wire. Despite their size, the abstract and moveable rotating sculptures exude a playful lightness and poetry.
