With the "Mer de Corail" collection the Maison Daum is exploring the depths of the Mediterranean Sea celebrating the infinite treasures of this underwater world and its aesthetics. Each piece from the "Mer de Corail" collection is a handmade unique piece made of pâte de cristal (= "crystal glass mass").
According to one legend, starfish in the sea mirror our stars in the sky. This attractive idea was perhaps what inspired Daum to create the wonderful "Mer de Corail" starfishes. The "Mer de Corail" starfishes by Daum are based on true copies of real starfishes. This is also mirrored in the way they feel. You can feel finely structured knobs on the legs of the starfish.
Each starfish is crafted by hand at the French manufactory Daum using a single crystal glass paste (pâte de verre) and is thus absolutely unique. Crystal-glass paste is made of a complex blend of crystal and lead granulate. The mixture can be kneaded like wax in the hands of the skilled glass artists. The result is exceptional shapes, a wonderful interplay of colours and contours that flow into one another. Little air bubbles captured in the glass are evidence of this special manufacturing process.
