The white "Urbino Canto" dinner service from KPM has been refined with a black, hand-painted rim. The fine colour line is quick fired at around 1300° C, which makes the porcelain suitable for the dishwasher.
The basic "Urbino" shape was designed by Trude Petri for KPM between 1930 and 1932. "New objectiveness" was the demand of the Deutsches Werksbund (German Word Federation), a German association of artists, architects, designers and industrialists, as well as the famous Bauhaus art school at the beginning of the last century.
"Urbino" is based on the elementary form of the circle and ball, and takes its inspiration from the ceramic plates without a centre circle popular during the North Italian Renaissance.
