About Gien Prestige
In 1821 one of the most renowned porcelain manufacturers in France, the “Fayencerie de Gien”, was founded on the banks of the Loire. Initially, the company focused on the production of functional china. However, Gien France soon developed and started producing high-quality, elegant and innovative dinner services.
The “Prestige" pieces of the French faience manufacturer are completely hand-painted. Faience is a fine, porous earthenware which is tin-glazed and then fired repeatedly. The sophisticated refinement of the resulting faience is what distinguishes it from other kinds of ceramic. Numerous work steps are necessary to produce a Gien Prestige piece.
We have put together a selection from the Gien Prestige collection. Some of the hand-painted plates, bowls and vases are only produced in a limited edition and are signed with the initials of the painter. “Pivoines” and "Pivoines Bleues” are among Gien's instantly recognisable “hallmark products”. Beautifully hand-painted peony motifs adorn the exclusive dinner service. Equally well-known is Gien’s prestige line “Vincennes Or”. The gold refinement on the decorative vases of “Vincennes Or” has made them into popular collectors’ items.
