Porcelain since 1824 – The Expertise of J.L Coquet

A craft with deep roots. As one of the great centres of French porcelain craftsmanship, the name of the city of Limoges is an internationally recognised synonym for top class porcelain. The region's success is due to its extraordinarily pure deposits of china clay and the demand for perfection in the craftsmanship of local porcelain makers.

To the east of the city of Limoges lies the small town of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat. This is where the J.L Coquet porcelain manufactory has been cultivating its irreplaceable expertise since 1824. In its historic workshops on the banks of the Vienne River, it has been producing flawless Limoges porcelain of simple elegance for generations.

J.L Coquet's porcelain paste develops its snow-white colour in a maturing process lasting up to three months. To create the inimitable interplay of glossy and matt surfaces, the craftsmen apply by hand a specially developed mineral mask that preserves the biscuit-like appearance of the porcelain. This ensures that all surfaces of the finished china are equally resistant and resilient.

Protected Quality, Guaranteed Excellence

A matter of honour. Since 2010, J.L Coquet has carried the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant’ (EPV) or "Living Heritage" label. This label is awarded by the French government to companies that embody French excellence through traditional craftsmanship.

In addition, J.L Coquet porcelain has been authorised to bear the official designation of origin "Porcelain from Limoges", or "L'Identification Géographique 'Porcelaine de Limoges'" in French, since 2017. It guarantees that the porcelain is entirely produced and decorated in the workshops in the Haute-Vienne region – 100% Made in France.
