"Kilimandjaro" double old fashioned tumblers by Theresienthal

The "Kilimandjaro" double old fashioned tumblers from Theresienthal are small masterpieces of cased crystal glass. They are mouthblown and engraved by hand. The fresh colours of the "Kilimandjaro" range are produced using a traditional overlay technique. The glassmakers need to possess a high level of skill to be able to melt the two layers of glass one on top of the other, so that a coloured layer encases the transparent glass. When the engraver cuts the pictures in the glass, the fine layer of colour is removed to reveal the transparent layer underneath – making the animals and landscape appear particularly vivid and alive.
