Extremely skilled craftsmanship is demanded to make these wafer-thin vases and almost transparent votive candle holders of bisque porcelain. Designer Ted Muehling perforates the pear-shaped cylinder with numerous tiny holes, so that the candlelight shines through with different degrees of intensity. Inspired by pieces of sun-bleached coral, Muehling created these extraordinary design objects for the Nymphenburg porcelain factory. Photo partly by Don Freeman.
