The "Malmaison" oil and vinegar cruets from Christofle comprise of two wide-necked glass carafes on a silverplated stand in the typical "Malmaison" design. The idea for the "Malmaison" range was inspired by the French Empire Style of the early nineteenth century. This period was marked by an enthusiasm for motifs from antiquity. The "Malmaison" vinegar and oil cruel stand by Christofle is decorated with a row of palm leaves.
Translated literally, "Malmaison" means "bad house". However these products from the Parisian silversmith Christofle are by no means intended for ramshackle residences. "Malmaison" was actually the name of the country residence of Napoleon Bonaparte and his first wife Joséphine de Beauharnais.
