Please note - new edition 2021: The "12 wine aromas new oak" set has received a makeover and is now in a green packaging (previously red). This new edition is based on the latest research - therefore the aromas and the accompanying texts were updated. New: 12 large index cards (16 x 23 cm) have been added, detailing the origin of the aromas.
Question: Why (re)purchase the oak box set? The set refects latest research. Jean Lenoir's understanding of the way oak interacts with wine has evolved so it was necessary to update the text and choice of aromas. Ageing wine in oak barrels is a technical subject. The book acknowledges this complexity while making it accessible to all. The book (56 pages) has been entirely rewritten in light of the most recent discoveries in history, silviculture and chemistry, which in turn help explain oak barrels' effect on wine's sensory characteristics.
2 new aromas: Toasted bread and liquorice have been replaced by roasted coffee and candied orange: the identity and origin of the compounds responsible for these two new aromas have recently been confirmed by oenological research.
The individual aromas are contained in glass vials. You can "inhale" the individual aromas and compare them directly to the wine you are tasting. You can order the set in French or English.
You will find a detailed list of the aromas per set here.

How long will the aromas keep? The aromas are guaranteed 5 years. They can last 10 years if kept in good conditions. Keep the vials upright in the box. Keep them away from sources of light and heat.
Are the aromas natural? Yes: the aromas are, insofar as possible, of natural origin. Le Nez du Vin, Le Nez du Café and Le Nez du Whisky aromas are made from both natural and synthetic ingredients (about 50/50).
Do the aromas contain alcohol? Le Nez du Vin tries to use other solvents. However, certain natural products are soluble only in alcohol.
Is it possible to buy the aromas or the books separately? Unfortunately not. The vials are inseparable from their companion books and vice-versa. The writings help connect the collection's aromas to the wine, coffee or whisky that you taste.
