Humidors – The Foundation of the Cigar Collection
Cigars only really feel at home in the (sub-)tropical climate of their home region, the Caribbean. In cool and dry climates, they dry out, form cracks and taste bitter if stored without protection. Therefore, anyone who wishes to store cigars outside tropic climates needs specialised type of storage, the humidor.
In its simplest form, a humidor is a box with a lid in which humidifiers constantly release water into the air. A lining made of special, untreated wood automatically and constantly regulates the humidity to the ideal 70% by absorbing or releasing moisture. The current humidity inside the humidor can be read on a built-in hygrometer. If the humidity drops, refill the humidifier with demineralised water.
Larger humidors are equipped with partitions for sorting your collection and to promote slow but steady air circulation. These combined effects allow cigars not only to remain fresh for years, but also to mature and develop even more complex aromas.
It is important to choose a humidor of the right size for your collection. The emptier the humidor, the faster it loses the correct humidity. In an overcrowded humidor, on the other hand, the air cannot circulate and there is a risk of mould. In our selection you will find convenient desktop humidors for small and medium-sized cigar collections from 25 to 250 pieces.
Spectacular Treasure Chests – Humidors by Elie Bleu
Elie Bleu is one of the best-known manufacturers of high-quality humidors. Following the ancient French craft of "tabletterie", the humidors of the renowned manufacture are crafted so well and precisely that they seal airtight without gaskets and will last a lifetime. But the crowning glory of Elie Bleu humidors are their superb surfaces made of rare precious wood veneers, which amaze and enchant with bold colours and flawless textures.
The secret of these perfect surfaces and lively designs is the art of marqueterie. Like a jigsaw puzzle, experienced artisans cut out complex shapes from sheets of veneer, join them together one by one and apply the finished, gap-free veneer to the boxes. An eightfold layer of lacquer protects the artistic veneer work and gives it an everlasting shine.
The designs developed in-house by Elie Bleu are also legendary among connoisseurs. With the Che Guevara humidors, Elie Bleu immortalises the symbolic figure of the Cuban Revolution on brightly coloured Sycamore wood. Lovers of Cuban cigars particularly enjoy the vintage cigar box style of the Alba humidors. The Macassar Ebony humidors dispense entirely with imagery and let the beguiling beauty of immaculate ebony speak for itself.
Distinguished Cigar Ashtrays
For a cigar to burn evenly, it must remain horizontal when placed down. Ashtrays for cigars therefore have pronounced notches or elongated resting surfaces on which the cigar continues to smoulder gracefully. The collecting trays of cigar ashtrays are often gently rounded so that the stiff ashes can be wiped off with careful twisting movements.
With the Galet cigar ashtray by Ercuis, you bed your cigar in the warm glow of pure silver. Its generous storage surface also keeps freshly lit cigars safe. For the ultimate in home bar furnishings, the Wingen ashtray by Lalique is the perfect choice. As part of the elegant "Wingen" bar collection, the ashtray is entirely made of heavy, satin-finished crystal glass. The Pinar cigar ashtray by GioBagnara, on the other hand, matches ideally with leather seating for a harmonious lounge atmosphere.
