About candle holders by Saint-Louis
Candle holders are nocturnal creations: They really come into their own when the light dims. However, one can admire the candlesticks from Saint-Louis all day long – with or without a candle. That is because their fine crystal glass, with its exquisite engraving and shapes, sparkles even when there is not a candle burning in them. The "Bubbles" candlestick with its attractive beaded stem is very eye-catching, while the "En Cage" table lanterns look like hot-air balloons made of crystal glass, their concave shape reflecting the light and creating a thousand different highlights. Just like the "Excess" tea light holder, which is enthroned on what looks like a crystal glass stone – a design for Saint-Louis by the famous French designer Hervé van der Straten.
Even though the candle holders are much smaller than, for example, the vases from Saint-Louis, they are manufactured with exactly the same care. Every Saint-Louis object is mouth-blown, cut and polished by hand. Their production demands perfect command of the techniques used, and it takes a long time to complete each piece. But that is how these candle holders exude a certain magic at any time of day.
