About Folia by Saint-Louis
Not many companies in Europe have mastered the art of glass blowing and cutting as perfectly as the Saint-Louis manufactory in France. Designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance recently created the "Folia" product line for Saint-Louis. During an interview, he admitted that it had not been easy to think up a totally new and original crystal glass creation that had not existed before. His "Folia" collection, however, proves that he did indeed have a genial idea. The designer worked with Saint-Louis over a period of in total 30 months to complete the entire collection.
"Folia" takes its inspiration from the surroundings in which the wonderful artwork of Saint-Louis comes to life ‒ namely woodland in Lorraine, in the north-east of France. It was these trees that provided the designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance with his idea for the "Folia" collection. His idea was to combine the normally cool-looking crystal glass with warm ash wood. The many conical cuts on the glasses and accessories are inspired by the shape of a leaf.
The special feature of the "Folia" glass series is that the engraving starts in the stem. This presents the glass blowers at Saint-Louis with a special challenge, since the glass stem needs to have a defined width in order to be engraved at all. The result; unique crystal glasses that refract the light even more than usual. Designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance describes it as giving "the impression of drinking pure light".
