Saint-Louis

The crystal glass manufactory Saint-Louis is one of the most prestigious glass producers in the world. The glassworks was founded in 1586. In 1781 it was the first glass manufactory in Europe which managed to produce lead crystal and it was hence officially designated a „Cristallerie”.

Over the years, Saint-Louis has developed numerous new techniques. They include filigree, hand-painted gild ornamentation, acid engraving and the double-cased crystal technique for the production of coloured glass. The production process is also very intricate: prize-winning master glassblowers and engravers work on each Saint-Louis glass. For example, 24 persons – 9 for the glass and 15 for engraving and decorating – are involved in the production of a set of the Bartholdi Gold glass line.

Today Saint-Louis has a fascinating repertoire of styles and produces artful glass objects together with reputable designers.
